A Canadian smart grocery-shopping platform
CartSage is an app that consolidates grocery shopping information from multiple stores into a single interface. You can view current prices from different supermarkets, browse their weekly flyers, and see which store has the best deal on items you want to buy. The app also lets you create shopping lists, get notifications when items go on sale, and plan the most efficient route to visit stores.
The app tracks how much money you save over time by choosing lower-priced options.
Grocery shoppers were stuck in a time-consuming cycle of manually hunting through multiple store flyers, comparing prices product by product, and then trying to figure out if driving to different stores for better deals was actually worth the gas money and extra time. They had no easy way to see the bigger picture of their total savings versus the real cost of getting those savings. The planning process was fragmented, with people juggling physical flyers, handwritten lists, and mental math about which stores to visit.
The entire grocery planning process was inefficient and left shoppers guessing whether their efforts to save money were actually worthwhile.
CartSage was built as a grocery shopping list application that solves the problem of comparing prices across stores and planning efficient routes to save money. The core technical decision was to integrate Google Maps Platform APIs to handle multi-stop route optimization based on the user's actual location and whether they're driving, walking, or taking transit. The product centers on a list interface where users add items, then the app queries pricing data from different stores and calculates which combination of stops saves the most money while minimizing travel time. Users can also browse digital flyers and track their cumulative savings over multiple shopping trips.
The app essentially automates the work of checking multiple store flyers and planning a logical path between locations to maximize grocery savings.
